With a newborn, you kind of feel like you’re in a perpetual state of ‘morning time.' Between the late night feedings, early morning wake up calls, random naps stuck in where you can….. it’s just pretty much morning all day long! It’s a lot different than it was with Parker where it was just all about her, and you could nap when she napped, and didn’t have to get off the couch all day if that’s how things played out. This time around, things are a bit different. I have a baby with unpredictable needs and a needy toddler, who needs to get up, get dressed, have someone make her some breakfast, get playtime, go to the park, etc.
It has been important for me to still get some one-on-one time with Parker and some one-on-one time with myself. I try to get up a bit before she does (if the baby is sleeping) and have some tea (decaf chai is my go-to these days), read a magazine or browse Pinterest, and just remember that I too need some quiet time to collect myself before the day begins. I don’t have time for dishes much, and it usually takes me like three hours to get through a cup of tea with all the chaos, so these Comfort Cup® by Chinet® insulated hot cups have been a legit lifesaver to have around these past few weeks. Saves me from getting cold tea and saves me from doing dishes. Double win! Plus, anything that is mobile and I can take on-the-go with me is essential these days.
One of my main things I love about our neighborhood, is just how convenient everything is. I’ve never been more appreciative of that than these first weeks with a new baby. As all new mothers know, you don’t get much time away from the tiny one and it takes what feels like hours to even get out of the house (where’s my bra for crying out loud?!), so P and I have been having our girl time a lot around breakfast. We will either pack something up for her and take it to the playground around the corner or head up to the bagel shop (seriously BEST bagels ever) and she’ll get to choose her favorite bagel. She gets to catch me up on all the things in her life and I get to remember, if only for a small time, what it was like when she was my only sidekick and we had these excursions every day. I’m glad we had a solid three years with just her, as we will never have just one kid again, and it was a sweet time!
